Research
Some of the research questions I have been working on:
- How can we safely and optimally integrate second-life batteries into the power grid at scale?
- How can we design inverter control loops that hold stability and performance criteria on both strong and weak grids?
- How can we reduce the number of sensors a modular converter system needs?
- How can we estimate and mitigate harmonics, both low and high frequency, in interconnected power converters under unbalanced power distribution?
Second-life battery energy storage
Retired electric-vehicle batteries retain substantial capacity but are heterogeneous in health, chemistry, and voltage. This work covers power conversion architectures and state-of-charge balancing that tolerate that spread, plus the screening and thermal-safety questions that decide whether a second-life pack is deployable at all.

State estimation and sensor reduction
Converters with hundreds of submodules need a voltage sensor per submodule, which dominates cost and failure rate. Extended Kalman filters, distributed neural network observers, and harmonic compensators can reconstruct those states from far fewer measurements, cutting hardware cost without losing control quality.

Predictive control of multilevel converters
Finite-control-set and sequential model predictive control strategies for modular multilevel, cascaded H-bridge, and matrix converters. The recurring problem is computational load: an exhaustive search over switching states is intractable at useful horizons, so the work develops sequential and long-horizon formulations that keep performance while staying implementable on real hardware.
