About
I am an Associate Lecturer at UNSW Sydney. My research focuses on advanced power electronics and control systems for grid-connected energy storage, with particular emphasis on second-life lithium-ion battery integration, optimal energy management, and inverter control. I have proposed control and optimisation frameworks that explicitly account for converter constraints, heterogeneous battery capacities, and grid-code compliance.
I hold a dual PhD from the University of Technology Sydney and Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, where my thesis on second-life battery energy storage received the Best Doctoral Thesis Award. I led the first second-life battery energy storage projects in Latin America, commissioning industrial prototypes and co-inventing two patented technologies, and co-founded Andes Electronics, a Chilean startup building battery management and energy storage systems, where I led product development across roughly AUD 800,000 in government innovation grants.
I have also led consultancy projects covering lithium-ion battery testing, battery management system design, and performance characterisation. That work spans utility-scale battery energy storage, electric vehicle batteries used in public transport, and medical applications, with Australian and Chilean partners.
Alongside research, I work on engineering education and capacity development. I teach electrical engineering courses and build experimental platforms and learning resources in control systems and power electronics, with a focus on bridging theoretical concepts and hands-on implementation. That work supports the training of both future engineers and practising professionals in my field.
